Unregistered Voting
How bout making voting for wildcard winners open to everyone rather than just registered users of Supernova? I mean it makes it a lot more accessible, you can still log the IP address number, therefore making it somewhat a tedious task for an individual to cheat on the votes.

Or, an even better idea. What if Supernova set up a way for fans to vote through Networking websites such as Facebook or Myspace. Once again you can still log IP addresses, theres still a valid way of identifying voters and it becomes easier for fans to vote even if they don't specifically want to sign up on Supernova.

It's just a thought, I've gotten some reactions when I spread the word about voting that go something along the lines of "Oh k... oh.. errh I have to sign up?". I think it would benefit the bands as well as the fans.

a good thought, but there is a small problem with this. it is then longer a competition between who is the better band, but who has the best networking. if anybody can swing by and vote with the push of a button, most of the people voting will likely have not even heard the music. thus defeating the point of the entire thing.

Yes, but thats why on wildcard voting it says "Listen & Vote", so even if you didn't attend the show you still have the opportunity to listen to all the bands and judge. Many people will be voting even though they weren't at the show. Also Supernova already encourages networking with ticket sales and afterwards it says "Spread the word about voting". You can already send messages from Supernova to Facebook and Myspace. This is just a logical next step.

Unregistered voting would have its ups and its downs.

Ups:
Many bands struggle with wildcard voting due to people not wanting to take the time to sign up in order to vote. Unregistered voting would make it much faster for fans to vote, thus more people willing to do so.

Downs:
It would be extremely easy for the voting to be tainted. There are people out there know how to do such things as reset their IP address [the thing that lets supernova know who is voting from the same computer]. With unregistered voting, one could simply reset their IP and vote for a band, multiple times.

The voting is already tainted. For anyone that has voted, were any of your votes validated? None of mine were. It's impossible to validate them all. What's the difference between you making up 20 accounts on your own, registering 20 profiles and voting 20 times a day, or if, after the show, you have 19 people at your place and they all register at your place and vote there. Perhaps even allowing you to continue while they go about their business. Because, honestly, they didn't want to have to register a profile in the first place, just so they could vote for who they support.

Please, make it so anyone can vote without having to register. Once you get to the voting stage, its supposed to be about networking...
